Ripon Cathedral - In 652 St. Wilfred travelled to Rome and on his return became abbot of a small monastery here. He had built a new church , the crypt of which now forms a part of today's Cathedral which was founded in 672. In 1836 the Minster at Ripon became the Cathedral of the newly created diocese of Ripon and in 2000 was re-named as the diocese of Ripon & Leeds. It covers a large part of the Yorkshire Dales and stretches from the River Tees down to South Leeds. |
