Ripley Castle - Home to the Ingilby family since 1345, Ripley Castle has a varied history and is set in beautiful countryside between Harrogate & Ripon. The castle gatehouse was built in the 1450s to keep out the Scots. After the Battle of Marston Moor, Oliver Cromwell spent a night in the castle and found himself under the watchful eye of Jane Ingilby, complete with two pistols! Sir Thomas and Lady Ingilby are the 28th generation of this family to reside at the castle. |
