Satterthwaite,
Cumbria
LA12 8LS Paul and Fran Townsend welcome you to this 16th Century Yeoman’s Farmhouse, set on a south facing hillside on the edge of the peaceful village of Satterthwaite in the Lake District, some four miles south of Hawkshead. Pepper House, named after William Pepper who farmed here in the early 1600’s, is a Cruck-Frame building dating from 1570, with big oak beams and thick stone walls. Here they offer comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation for up to six guests in this characterful house. Satterthwaite is close enough to central Lakeland for ease of access to the more famous fells, whilst maintaining its ‘off the beaten track’ appeal for the discerning visitor in search of genuine peace and quiet. Webmaster's note: I visited Pepper House in Oct 2008 and very much enjoyed my stay there. I will be returning. |

1 Chapel Lane, Hebden Near Grassington, BD23 5DT (Contact through Swallow's Nest Website) A cottage for five on the edge of the village with spectacular views of the Dales countryside. Swallows Nest is a surprisingly spacious extended 19th Century former lead miners cottage, situated at the end of a terrace of such cottages, enjoying a very peaceful setting on the edge of the village. The cottage has been extensively renovated and refurbished to a high standard, and retains much of its original character, with fully beamed ceilings downstairs, exposed stonework, an inglenook-style fireplace in the lounge and double-glazing throughout. There are solid oak floors downstairs and some low doorways, making this an interesting property which has been pleasantly decorated and very well equipped. |

A little something to take with you to read on the beach or during those quiet evenings. A Novel by Brian R Hill of Yorkshire Images Genre: Adventure/Fantasy - ISBN: 1413783244 Click here for more exciting details and how to order The Shintae is an exciting book that will draw the reader in from the moment they turn the first page. If you enjoy action, adventure and strong characters then read The Shintae. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to Mr. Hill’s next book. - Reviewed by Patricia Perry, author, Quest for the Source of Darkness As a first book, Brian R. Hill has a hit on his hands. I found it to be an easy read, yet one I had trouble putting down. The action begins in the first two pages and is non-stop right to the end of the book. I look forward to seeing more by this author. - Reviewed by Rebecka Vigus for Reader Views, author of Only a Start and Beyond, So You Think You Want to be a Mommy? and Secrets Mr. Hill keeps the reader completely embedded in the story until the final end and then some. The secondary characters complete the story keeping it smoothly flowing making this read a page-turner. - Reviewed by Linda - Lighthouse Literary Reviews This book goes along at a smart pace, once started it is hard to put down. The characters are three dimensional and interesting, the story consistent, the various threads well crafted and culminating in breathtaking action. One aspect of "The Shintae" which, for me, sets it apart from many others of its genre is the way in which Brian Hill has managed to create the atmosphere of the scene of the action, describing the landscape in such a manner that you really feel you are accompanying the heroes on
their quest through the forests and mountains of this tightly written novel. |
